Terms of Service

Thank you for visiting RetroLand. Please read this page carefully. By accessing or using RetroLand (retro-land.com and related services), you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the service.

1. About RetroLand

RetroLand is a non-profit community project built and operated by the RetroLand team ("we"). RetroLand provides:

  • An in-browser emulator for classic game systems.
  • Online play rooms, matchmaking, leaderboards, and a community area.
  • Account features such as save progress and player profiles.

RetroLand is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Nintendo, Sega, Sony, Capcom, Konami, or any other game publisher or manufacturer.

2. Definitions

  • "Service": the website, features, and content provided by RetroLand.
  • "User" / "you": anyone who accesses or uses the Service, with or without an account.
  • "Game file": a game data file, often called a ROM, ISO, or similar.
  • "User content": messages, display names, avatars, posts, and anything else you create on the Service.

3. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 16 to register an account on your own. People under 16 may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian.
  • You agree that the information you provide is accurate and that you will follow the laws of Vietnam and of the place where you live.
  • You are responsible for your own device, connection, and Internet access costs.

4. Accounts

  • You can sign in with a Google account or another method we support.
  • You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for activity under that account. Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
  • Each person should use one account. Creating extra accounts to cheat a leaderboard, evade a ban, or harass others is a violation.
  • You may ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing contact@retro-land.com.

5. Game content and responsibility for game files

Please read this section carefully.

  1. Ownership: Game titles, names, characters, artwork, and music belong to their respective owners. RetroLand does not own them and does not claim to own them.
  2. RetroLand's role: Games offered directly on RetroLand are titles licensed for free distribution, works in the public domain, homebrew, or titles the owner has allowed us to distribute.
  3. Your responsibility: You agree to use only game files you have a legal right to use (for example a backup of a cartridge or disc you own, homebrew, or a game released for free). You are solely responsible for files you load and for how you use them.
  4. No pirated files: You may not post, send, share, or give instructions for downloading copyright-infringing game files on RetroLand, including in chat, comments, profiles, Discord, or groups run by RetroLand.
  5. Removal: When we receive a valid infringement notice, we handle it under the Copyright Complaints (DMCA) page.

6. Online play (rooms, chat, leaderboards)

  • Online play depends on your Internet connection, device, and browser. We do not guarantee latency, stability, or matchmaking results.
  • Scores, ranks, and badges are for community entertainment only. They have no monetary value.
  • We may remove scores, reset a leaderboard, or void a result if we find cheating, a system error, or an operational reason to do so.
  • Chat and interaction in rooms must follow the Community Guidelines.

7. Prohibited conduct

You may not:

  • Cheat, use bots, or exploit bugs to distort results or ruin the experience for others.
  • Attack, scan, overload, or attempt unauthorized access to the system or to someone else's account.
  • Inject malware or distribute harmful software.
  • Scrape data at scale or redistribute the Service for commercial purposes without written consent.
  • Post content that is illegal, abusive, harassing, discriminatory, pornographic, extremely violent, or invasive of someone else's privacy.
  • Impersonate a person, an organization, or the moderators.
  • Use the Service for advertising, scams, or spam.
  • Share, explain how to download, or distribute copyright-infringing game files.

8. Intellectual property

  • Source code, interface, logo, design, and other material created by RetroLand belong to us. You may not copy or use them without permission.
  • Open-source components are used under their own licenses.
  • Names and images of companies, games, and characters are used for identification and belong to their respective owners.

9. User content

  • You keep your rights in content you create.
  • By posting content on RetroLand, you grant us permission to use, store, and display that content as needed to operate the Service (for example showing your name, avatar, and messages to other players).
  • We may hide or remove content that violates these terms without prior notice.
  • You are responsible for what you post.

10. Donations

  • Donations are voluntary and help cover operating costs such as servers, the domain, and development.
  • A donation is not a purchase, does not buy exclusive access, and is not refundable except when a transaction fails.
  • A donation does not give you ownership of or control over RetroLand.

11. Third-party links and services

The Service may contain links or integrations with third parties (Google, Discord, social networks, and others). We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, policies, or actions. Read their terms when you use them.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including uninterrupted operation, freedom from errors, compatibility with every device, or freedom from data loss. Saved game progress can be lost because of a technical fault. Keep your own backup if it matters to you.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, RetroLand and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential harm (lost data, lost game progress, service interruption, harm from another user's content, or harm from a game file you load yourself). You use the Service at your own risk.

14. Suspension and termination

We may warn you, limit your access, temporarily suspend your account, or delete it if you violate these terms or if a competent authority requires it. We may also change, pause, or stop part or all of the Service for technical, legal, or operational reasons.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms at any time. The date at the top of the page will change. If you keep using the Service after an update, you accept the new terms. We will announce important changes on the website.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Disputes should first be resolved through good-faith discussion. If that fails, they fall under the jurisdiction of the competent courts in Vietnam.
